Admissions Process

Thank you for choosing to apply to Cardiff Sixth Form College. The application process is as follows:

STEP 1

Register and make a formal application by clicking here.

Once you submit your application, we will send you a registration invoice. After you have registered, we will enable a portal for your application.
Through this portal, you will need to upload the following documents directly to your application:
  • A copy of your passport
  • Your birth certificate
  • Your latest school report

STEP 2

Sit entrance exams:

GCSE

English, Maths and GL Assessment (online reasoning test). International students for the two year GCSE course do not require a minimum level IELTS, however for the one year GCSE course IELTS 5.5 is required. Please register for Academic UKVI IELTS at your local British Council office or through your agent and send the results as soon as possible to admissions@ccoex.com.

A Levels – International students

Take four subjects the student would like to study for A Level plus GL Assessment. Students for A Level require IELTS 6.5.

International students for A Level IELTS 6.5.  Please register for an Academic UKVI IELTS test at your local British Council office and send the results as soon as possible to admissions@ccoex.com.  A conditional offer will be made on the marks of entrance exams subject to passing the correct IELTS band when the offer will become unconditional.

A Levels – Day students

Take an entrance exam for all 4 of the subjects the student would like to study for A Level plus GL Assessment and are required to have six A*s (grades 8/9) in their GCSE examinations including subjects chosen for A Level. One of the six GCSE (A) grades should be English Language

(results sent by 1200 on GCSE results day in August each year).

STEP 3

All applicants will attend an interview either in person or via Zoom.

 

STEP 4

Applicants who are offered places will be asked to accept their place within one week of the offer and pay the deposit. Please click here for a copy of our terms and conditions.

STEP 5

International students must employ a guardian. We are unable to recommend guardians as this is a contract between the parent and guardianship agency.  However please click here for a list of accredited guardianship agencies that our students have employed in the past.

STEP 6

Pre-arrival information will be sent in April in two parts.

  • Part one will contain requests for medical forms, guardian forms, and complimentary pick-up information.
  • Part two will contain information about the college.

STEP 7

For international students, visa applications commence from May onwards. Our CAS processing team  will be in touch directly with you to help you arrange your visa.

STEP 8

Start packing and get excited about coming!

Packing Checklist

Double duvet cover and pillow slip

2 x towels

Posters and pictures

Hangers

Laundry basket

Pens, highlighters, notebook, scientific calculator

Backpack

Laptop, phone and relevant cables

Clothes – remember to not bring too much as you will be in school uniform most of the time

Trainers, sportswear, pyjamas, dressing gown, warm coat, raincoat

 

The following are only necessary if you are hoping to cook in addition to your meals at the College:

Crockery – plate, bowl, glass and mug

Cutlery – one set knife, fork, spoon

Saucepan/frying pan

Utensils – cheese grater, sharp knife, spatula, chopping board, colander, tin opener
