This past Saturday, our NASA Club held its annual inter-house competition, a highlight of the academic year, as students battled it out to secure a coveted spot in the UKSDC (UK Space Design Competition). The event brought together 25 eager participants from Year 11 and Year 12, forming two teams under the guidance of seven A2 students, who make up this year’s NASA Club management team.
The day kicked off with an intensive morning session, where students had to collaborate on solving real-world space engineering problems. They tackled challenges like spacecraft design, lunar habitation, and mission planning. Each team had just a few hours to develop innovative solutions, all while demonstrating teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking.
After a full day of hard work and intense focus, the event culminated in the evening with each team presenting their solutions to a panel of judges, which included teachers and last year’s UKSDC finalists. The presentations showcased the students’ impressive understanding of science and their ability to think on their feet.
Now, the journey continues. From this competition, 12 students will be selected to represent our school at the regional UKSDC event this November at Cardiff University. If successful, they will advance to the national finals at Imperial College, London, in February.
Good luck to the selected team—we’re confident they’ll make us proud at the regionals!
